Arlene's Parking Lot Lighting

Arlene has two problems.

First, if the lighting in the parking lot is a lot brighter than nearby lighting, it might annoy the neighbors. She has to worry about where the lights are pointing. Bright lights that point into bedrooms won't make Arlene or her store very popular with the neighbors.

Second, a big difference in brightness levels can annoy Arlene's customers. Imagine you have walked inside after being outside on a sunny day--you are temporarily blinded. Arlene's customers might experience the same thing if the parking lot lights are too bright. They risk tripping over things when they walk away, and are also unable to see people lurking beyond the edges of the parking lot.

Solve Arlene's problem

Arlene should investigate using street lights in her parking lot. They are good at creating a low-intensity light over a large area. That way, there won't be such a big difference between the parking lot and the rest of the neighboring area. She should also make sure the lights do not point into anyone's home.
