Can a Thief Conceal Your Merchandise?

Can the merchandise be hidden on someone's body or in their clothing? It is obviously easier to steal a tube of lipstick than a large puffy comforter or a refrigerator. You can make small items harder to hide by attaching them to bigger things.

For example, stores that sell compact disks often enclose them in large plastic cases that are taken off at the cash register.

Is the item something you wouldn't notice was missing right away? For example, if you have a large bin full of stuff that is just thrown in, a thief could steal from the bin and you might never know.

This is why many stores do what is sometimes called "facing-up." They move the products to the front of the shelf and organize the boxes or cans neatly. Not only does this make the shelves look nicer, it makes it easier to see if something is missing.
