Is Your Merchandise Easy to Re-sell?

If something would be easy to re-sell, it could be a hot product. Has anyone ever offered to sell you a DVD player out of their car trunk, or sidled up to you at a bar and tried to sell you a nice steak? These people may have been selling stolen goods.

Some products are easier to re-sell than others. Things that are popular on the legitimate market are also popular in the stolen goods market. Products that are new to the market, such as innovative electronic gadgets and products that are expensive, are usually easy to resell.

Be especially careful about protecting this kind of merchandise. Products that are cheap and that everybody already owns are less attractive to thieves who steal to re-sell.

CD players

Jeans

If you sell merchandise that is made specifically for one person, you probably don't have a problem with people stealing from you to re-sell. For example, individually-molded dental retainers can be quite expensive, but have no value on the stolen goods market.
