Responsible Beverage Service Programs

Beverage service programs help train employees to identify drunk patrons and stop serving them so the customers will not cause problems or become violent.

Establish company policies on serving, accepting identification, and handling drunk patrons.

Be aware of the patrons, from the first drink to the last.

Know signs of intoxication, such as impaired motor control, change in volume and pace of speech, red eyes, sweating, and decreased alertness.

Talk to patrons to see how drunk they are so you can more easily intervene if a problem arises.

Offer drunk patrons food or other non-alcoholic beverages as an alternative to alcohol.

Promote alternate ways of getting home, such as taxis or public transportation.
