Exterior/Other Entrances

All possible entrances to the building need to be secured. This includes securing the surrounding property.

Roof Access - Skylights, fire escapes, and ventilation ducts can provide easy access if not protected, and they are often not visible from the street.

Fences/Gates - Make sure fences are in good repair, and that gates are padlocked. An anti-scaling device such as barbed wire needs to be used. Fences should not limit visibility of the business. Also, a fence can only prevent access if the gate is strong enough, so make sure that locks and hinges are suitable.

Landscaping - Trees and shrubs around the building provide good hiding places for burglars. You do not want the landscaping to obstruct the view.
