Preventing Coupon Fraud

Coupon fraud is when someone tries to redeem a coupon that is void, typically for a product that the person has not even purchased. This costs consumer product manufacturers millions of dollars every year. This can also have an effect on consumers because it eventually leads to an increase in consumer prices.

Businesses can prevent coupon fraud in the following ways:

1. Have sales associates closely check the expiry date and redemption conditions of the coupon.

2. Require a proof of purchase if someone tries to redeem a coupon 'after the fact'.
