PROBLEM |
SOLUTION |
| 1) Order-picking |
The picker picks up something he shouldn't and steals it. |
- Screen your pickers carefully before hiring them.
- Only let employees use one door to go in and out of the warehouse.
- Don't let people park close to the warehouse.
- Be on the lookout for discarded packaging. Thieves often remove items from their wrappings before taking them from the warehouse.
|
| 2) Checking the order in the staging area |
People steal items just before they are loaded. |
- Keep a close eye on the staging area, but be careful who you leave there alone.
|
| 3) The truck arrives |
The driver is left alone, and finds plenty of opportunity to steal from you. |
- Don't let the driver wander around the warehouse.
- Don't let the driver open the door to the truck until loading is ready to start.
|
| 4) The goods are loaded onto the truck |
The shipper and the driver, in collusion, overload the truck. |
- Don't let the same person count the order and sign off on it.
- Do a count of what is in the truck before it drives off.
- Recall trucks at random to do recounts.
|
| 5) The truck is sealed |
A bad seal is used, allowing the driver to open the truck along the route and steal things. |
- Keep your seals in a very secure place.
- Double-check the seal number with the one on the paperwork.
- Don't let the driver put the seal on himself.
