Taxis that operate in the city get customers from the street, and usually drive shorter routes. Their income consists of many small fares and few large fares. This may deter a robber because they believe the amount of cash is not worth the risk. However, city taxis may be at increased risk because they deal with more customers and drive in very different areas.

On the positive side, city taxis tend to be very familiar with area in which they work, and may be aware of dangerous and dark streets and spots, and avoid them. While airport taxis just get the next customer in the row, street taxis have somewhat more control over who their customers are -- drivers can always decide not to stop for an individual looking dangerous or suspicious.
