Taxi Drivers are Easy Targets

  • Taxi drivers are frequent robbery targets, and in some cases these attacks can turn violent. Taxi drivers are easy targets, and this is why:
    • Taxi drivers are usually paid in cash, and by the end of their shift often accumulate large amounts of money. Because the driver carries the cash with them makes them a likely target for robbery.
    • Taxi drivers are vulnerable because they work alone, and single armed people can easily rob them.
    • Customers are picked up from the street and ride in the back seat, so drivers rarely get a good look at the passenger. It is difficult to detect and respond to danger.
    • Taxi drivers may be requested to go to an area they are unfamiliar with, drive through dark streets, or stop at a dangerous spot. Because their income depends on customers, taxi drivers are unlikely to refuse such requests.
