Preventing Stealing of Your Cash

  1. Never give the invoice back to the deliveryman after the merchandise is checked and the invoice signed

  2. Make sure that person checking and signing the invoice and the person paying for the delivery are in contact -- it should actually be the same person.

  3. In larger stores, if there are enough staff so that there is a separate receiver position, the receiver should keep a record of what the payment should be, and the payment amount should be confirmed with the employee making the payment.

  4. Pay in checks rather than cash. If you pay cash, this gives a motive for a deliveryman to alter invoices, or do something else to end up with money he can keep for himself.

There are cases of receivers who colluded with deliverymen to defraud or steal from a store. Usually the receiver gets a share of the stolen amount. To safeguard against this, if possible, make sure the same person doesn't always deal with a particular deliveryman. Also, conduct random spot checks of receivers by checking the delivered merchandise against the invoice right after the delivery has been made.
