The Strategies Deliverymen Use to Confuse You

They distract the receiver.

  • They make the delivery when the store is busy.
    • Once the deliveryman knows he is not being watched carefully, he can easily commit theft. He can report delivering 4 boxes of goods, while there are only 3; he can say that each box contains 12 bags of chips, when in fact each carries only 10 or less; he can replace heavier packages for lighter ones, so that numbers match but weights don't; and so on. Because workers are busy, they will just sign off the invoice, never even checking the delivered merchandise.

  • They bring along a helper.
    • Because the receiver can keep only an eye on one person, the other person has an opportunity to steal items from the store, or simply take the delivered products back to the truck.

They gain the trust of the receiver.

  • They give free samples.

  • They deliver more merchandise than is invoiced.
    • After this happens a few times, receivers are likely to stop counting and checking the merchandise, and are less likely to question mistakes when detected.
