| Preventing fraud and theft by delivery people involves setting up systems to control their access to parts of your business, as well as what they bring in and take out. The first step is to recognize that many delivery people and vendors will try to steal from you. It is dangerous to trust them to be honest all the time.
- Have an employee whose main responsibility is to fully check deliveries, even during the busiest times in the store.
- Set specific times of the day, or specific days of the week for deliveries, in order to avoid too many at once or during busy store hours.
- Accept deliveries in the storage area, not by the truck or in the store.
