Can I put CCTV in bathrooms and fitting rooms?

A lot of shoplifting activity happens in bathrooms and fitting rooms. Is it okay to set up cameras in those places? Absolutely not. Companies who have done this have been sued by customers for violation of privacy. You will need to take other steps to prevent this sort of shoplifting. Click here for some ideas about this.

As for taping employees, it depends where the camera is, whether it is visible or hidden, and whether people are told the cameras are there. This is a fairly new issue for courts to deal with, and the law is changing over time. If you're sure you want to tape your employees, it's best to check with a lawyer first.
